The Rote Brook nature reserve is located in the municipality of Mettingen in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends southeast of the core town of Mettingen. The state road L 599 runs to the north, the L 501 to the south and the L 796 to the west.

A 10.66 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Mettingen since 1988 under the identification number ST-060. The area was placed under protection

  • for the maintenance and restoration of communities and habitats of certain wild animal species and wild plants
  • to protect and maintain the quarry forest that accompanies the stream , the reed area as well as the damp grassland , the fen area for geological and cultural reasons
  • for the protection, maintenance and development of still and flowing waters .
