Meadows on the Max Clemens Canal

The Wiesen nature reserve on the Max-Clemens Canal is located in the area of the city of Emsdetten in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area, which consists of four sub-areas, extends west of the core city of Emsdetten. The state road L 583 runs along the northern edge of the area and the L 590 to the south. The 341.7 hectare nature reserve Emsdettener Venn extends to the north and the 98.0 hectare nature reserve Borghorster Venn to the west .

An area of 160.135 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve for Emsdetten since 1988 under the identification number ST-002. The area was placed under protection for the preservation, development and restoration of communities and biotopes , in particular of rare and z. T. high risk landscape space typical plant and animal species in a former heath and rare, threatened part waders and wild birds, amphibians and invertebrates and plants, and plant associations of the open water and the wet grassland .
The nature reserve is part of the European bird sanctuary " Feuchtwiesen im northern Münsterland ".
