The Kreienfeld nature reserve is located in the municipality of Hopsten in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends northeast of the core town of Hopsten and southeast of Halverde , a district of Hopsten. The state roads L 595 and L 593 run to the west. The 176.4 ha nature reserve (NSG) Halverder Moor extends to the north and the 327.3 ha NSG Recker Moor and the 135.7 ha NSG Mettinger Moor to the south-east . The state border with Lower Saxony runs not far to the east.

Since 1988 a 37.53 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Hopsten under the identification number ST-018. It was placed under protection for the preservation, development and restoration of communities and biotopes , in particular of plants and plant communities of open water and moist grassland as well as rare and z. Plant and animal species that are partly endangered, typical of the landscape, include rare, sometimes endangered waders and meadow birds , amphibians and invertebrates .
