The Large and Small Unland nature reserve is located in the area of the city of Rheine in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area extends west of the core town of Rheine directly on the B 481 that passes on the northern edge and directly on the B 70 that passes on the western edge . The state border with Lower Saxony runs not far to the west, the Ems flows to the east . Not far northeast extends the 7.88 ha large nature reserve wet grassland complex Ellinghorst .
meaning
Since 1998, a 10.90 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Rheine under the identification number ST-108. The area was placed under protection
- for the preservation of communities and habitats that are wet and wet grassland in connection with near-natural standing water as a habitat for endangered plant and animal species,
- for scientific, natural history, geographical and geological reasons and
- because of the rarity, the special character and beauty of the surface.
