The Trogbahn-Wienhake nature reserve lies on the territory of the municipality of Hopsten and the town of Hörstel in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area, which consists of seven sub-areas, extends west of the core town of Hopsten and northwest of the core town of Hörstel, directly on the state border with Lower Saxony on the northern edge . The state road L 593 runs along the southern edge and the L 833 to the east.

For Hopsten and Hörstel, an area of 87.87 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number ST-005 since 1988 . The area was placed under protection for the preservation, development and restoration of communities and biotopes , in particular of plants and plant communities of open water and moist grassland as well as rare and z. Plant and animal species that are partly endangered, typical of the landscape, include rare, sometimes endangered waders and meadow birds , amphibians and invertebrates .
