The Am Kälberberg nature reserve is located in the municipality of Recke in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area, which consists of two sub-areas, extends southwest of the core town of Recke. North flows the Midland Canal , northwest extends the 259.9 ha large nature reserve Sacred Sea - Heupen , which runs west country road L 504th

A 11.54 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Recke since 1990 under the identification number ST-073. The area was placed under protection for conservation
- of a Niederwald- Heide complex as a culturally, historically and geographically worthy area and
- a habitat for rare plant communities and endangered plant and animal species.
