The Halverder Moor nature reserve is located in the municipality of Hopsten in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends northeast of the core town of Hopsten and northeast of Halverde , a district of Hopsten, on the eastern border with Lower Saxony . State road L 593 runs to the west .

Since 1988, a 176.415 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Hopsten under the identification number ST-006. The area was placed under protection for the preservation, promotion and restoration of communities or biotopes , in particular of plants and plant communities of open water and moist grassland as well as rare and z. Plant and animal species, some of which are highly endangered, typical of the landscape, including rare, sometimes endangered, waders and meadow birds , amphibians and invertebrates .
