The Elter Fischteiche nature reserve is located in the area of ​​the city of Rheine in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends southeast of the core city of Rheine and to the east not far from Elte , a district of Rheine. The state road L 593 runs to the east and south, the Ems flows to the west . The 13.69 ha large nature reserve (NSG) Flöddert and the 26.66 ha large NSG Elter Dünen extend south .

Since 2002, a 5.81 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Rheine under the identification number ST-107. The area was placed under protection in order to restore a continuous, near-natural stream course with its typical floodplain water habitats and near-natural floodplain forests as habitat for plants and animals.
