The Fledder nature reserve is located in the municipality of Hopsten in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area, which consists of three sub-areas, extends north of the core town of Hopsten and northwest of Shell , a district of Hopsten. The state road L 595 runs along the southwestern edge of the area and the L 593 to the east. The state border with Lower Saxony runs along the western edge and not far to the north .

Since 1988, an 89.69 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Hopsten under the identification number ST-024. The area was placed under protection for the preservation, development and restoration of communities and biotopes , in particular of plants and plant communities of open water and moist grassland as well as rare and z. Plant and animal species that are partly endangered, typical of the landscape, include rare, sometimes endangered waders and meadow birds , amphibians and invertebrates .
