The nature reserve forest and grassland complex near Bentlage Castle is located in the area of the city of Rheine in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area extends north, west and south of Bentlage Castle and northeast of Bentlage , a district of Rheine, along the Ems , which flows on the northern and eastern edges . The B 70 runs through the area in a north-south direction. The state border with Lower Saxony runs not far to the north, while the B 481 runs south .

Since 1998, an area of 103.53 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve for Rheine under the identification number ST-106. The area has been placed under protection for conservation and restoration
