The Schnippenpohl nature reserve is located in the municipality of Wettringen in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area, which consists of two partial areas, extends northwest of the core town of Wettringen and northeast of the core town of Ochtrup . The state road L 582 and the A 31 run to the west, the Vechte flows to the east and the L 567 runs to the north-west. The 86.14 hectare nature reserve Harskamp extends to the northwest . The state border with Lower Saxony runs north.

For Wettringen, a 32.85 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number ST-041 since 1952 . The area was placed under protection for the preservation, development and restoration of communities and biotopes , in particular of rare and z. Sometimes highly endangered plant and animal species typical of the landscape in a nutrient-poor heather pond and in the surrounding moist forest areas as well as rare, sometimes endangered meadow birds , amphibians and invertebrates as well as plants and plant communities of the moist grassland .
