The Grafensteiner See nature reserve is located in the city of Steinfurt in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends northeast of the core city of Steinfurt. The state road L 578 runs to the west and the L 583 to the northeast. The 341.7 hectare nature reserve (NSG) Emsdettener Venn extends to the northeast and the 98.02 hectare NSG Borghorster Venn to the south .
