Saint-Avit is a French municipality with 234 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Riom (until 2017 Clermont-Ferrand ) and the canton of Saint-Ours (until 2015 Pontaumur ).

Saint-Avit is located about 45 kilometers west-northwest of Clermont-Ferrand in the old cultural landscape of the Combrailles . The northern municipal area is crossed by the Saunade River, and the Tyx runs south , which also forms the Etang de Tyx lake . The area around the lake is designated as a type 1 ecotope (French ZNIEFF , zone naturelle d'interêt écologique, faunistique et floristique ).
Saint-Avit is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mérinchal in the north and west, Condat-en-Combraille in the south and east and La Celle in the south-west.
