Georges Conchon

Georges Conchon (born May 9, 1925 in Saint-Avit , † July 29, 1990 in Paris ) was a French writer and screenwriter .

Life

Conchon was born the son of a teacher. He studied literature and philosophy and then went into politics. From 1952 to 1958 he was head of the general assembly of the Union française and from 1960 to 1980 he was parliamentary secretary in Paris. At the same time he worked as a journalist and published his debut novel Les grandes lessives at the age of 28 . Several novels followed. For L'horizon. Les honneurs de la guerre was awarded the Prix Fénéon in 1956 and the Prix ​​des Libraires in 1960 for La corrida de la victoire . In 1964 he won the prestigious Prix ​​Goncourt for wild states ( L'état sauvage ) . His novels often deal with current issues such as racism and corruption.

In 1967 Conchon first worked for the film. He was working on the adaptation of his own novel L'horizon. Les honneurs de la guerre involved, which was filmed by Jacques Rouffio under the title L'horizon . Further scripts followed, including Luchino Visconti's Der Fremde (1967) based on the novel of the same name by Albert Camus , Quartet Bestial , for which he received a César nomination in 1976 , and Sehnsucht nach Afrika , which won the 1977 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film . Numerous novels by Conchon were made into films, including La corrida de la victoire , L'état sauvage , Le sucre , Judith Therpauve and La banquière .
