action
Madrid in the summer of 1939. The Spanish civil war is over. Generalissimo Francisco Franco defeated the Republican associations with his army. Both sides, the fascist and the red, have fought their test of strength. But the regime that the allies were supposed to survive is not resting. The opponents face constant persecution. Juan, who had fought on the Republican side, returns home to find his brother Luis, who lives in the family home with the 70-year-old housekeeper Trinidad. Luis was a colonel on Franco's side and now holds a high office in a Madrid ministry. First he wants to show his brother the door because he doesn't want him in the house; because the two brothers, sons of an old aristocratic family in the country, face each other as former political opponents who they are still today due to their different views. The situation in the house is almost unbearable when the two of them live with the housekeeper. Finally, Luis even takes his brother to the Spanish-French border. Juan is now threatened with imprisonment because France and Great Britain have meanwhile declared war on Germany and Spain is on the other side. In human terms, the two enemy brothers have almost come closer again. When saying goodbye, Juan calls out to his brother: "I love you - fascist!", And Luis calls back: "I love you too - damn red!"
Reviews
The evangelical film observer draws the following conclusion: “A material worth discussing, which is also above average in terms of design. The questionable nature of the ideological engagement is clearly stated. "
