Wolfgang Reichmann (born January 7, 1932 in Beuthen , Upper Silesia , † May 7, 1991 in Waltalingen near Zurich ) was a German actor .

Life

In the 1950s Reichmann studied German and theater studies for two semesters in Frankfurt am Main and four semesters at the music academy (including opera singing). He also started as an actor at the Frankfurt Theater. His path as a theater actor also took him to theaters in Gießen , Düsseldorf and Munich until 1963 . From 1963 until his death he was a member of the ensemble at the Zurich Schauspielhaus . Reichmann was a versatile character actor who, in addition to the great roles of the classical repertoire (title role in Faust , Götz von Berlichingen (1985, Burgfestspiele Jagsthausen ), Danton in Danton's death and various Shakespeare roles), also dominated the modern roles ( Friedrich Dürrenmatt , Edward Bond ) In the last years of his life, Reichmann increasingly turned to musicals and played a. a. in the Berlin Theater des Westens with Helen Schneider , Hildegard Knef and Utz Richter in Cabaret and in Berlin the main role in Anatevka .

He made his film debut in 1954. Reichmann was rarely seen in cinema roles, but more often in television productions.

In 1986 he took over the role of the multilingual Salvatore in the radio play production The Name of the Rose, based on Umberto Eco 's novel of the same name, directed by Otto Düben.

In 1991 he played the role of Mr. Lüttich in the ARD television series Haus am See . After only six days of shooting, Reichmann died unexpectedly in May 1991 of the consequences of a heart attack . The role was not reoccupied, but rewritten.

Wolfgang Reichmann was awarded the Golden Camera in 1969 by the television magazine Hörzu for his portrayals in the television adaptations of the John Steinbeck novel Von Mäusen und Menschen and Othello . This prize is awarded as part of the Bad Hersfeld Festival for outstanding acting. Wolfgang Reichmann received the award for his portrayal of the milkman Tevje in the musical Anatevka.
