Wolfgang Reichmann (basketball player)

Wolfgang Reichmann (born November 1, 1947 in Bamberg ) is a German cabaret artist , former radio broadcaster and former basketball player . For FC Bamberg he played in the basketball league .

Life

As a teenager, Reichmann first played football at VfL Jahn Bamberg. As a pupil at the secondary school, he came to basketball in Bamberg through Bert Pessler . His club career in basketball began at FC Bamberg, for whose men's team he received his first assignments at the age of 17.

As team captain, he led FC Bamberg to promotion to the basketball league in 1970 and was one of the team's top performers in the following years. In May 1974 he played his first international match for the senior national team of the Federal Republic of Germany against Argentina in Bamberg , becoming the first Bamberg national player. He came to twelve A-internationals for the FRG. The left-hander was part of the Bamberg Bundesliga squad until 1978. After his playing time in Bamberg, Reichmann spent another year in Ebermannstadt and as a player-coach in Baunach .

Reichmann worked full-time as a secondary school teacher, until the beginning of May 2014 he was also employed as a part-time football reporter for Bayerischer Rundfunk for 29 years and was one of the reporters at the ARD Bundesliga conference . He was a reporter for more than 500 Bundesliga soccer matches. He also reported on other sporting events. For a short time he was also active as a basketball and ice hockey commentator for German sports television (DSF). Reichmann reported on games from Brose Bamberg for Radio Bamberg.

He also appeared as a cabaret artist and presenter. In 2013 he was awarded the Franconian  cube. In 2016 he took over the chairmanship of the “City Association for Sport in Bamberg”.
