Radio Bamberg is a German local radio station for the Bamberg and Forchheim region , based in the Bamberg radio house .

Start of transmission

The forerunner Radio Regnitzwelle (broadcast in the morning until 1:20 p.m. and in the evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) and the youth radio station Fun Boy Radio (in the afternoon from 1:20 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) ) began broadcasting on the Bamberg VHF frequency 88.5 MHz in so-called frequency splitting on October 10, 1987 . The night program was taken over by one of the two stations on a weekly basis. A year later, a frequency for the city of Forchheim was added (at that time 90.3 MHz from the post office); But this was very poor and the station could not be heard continuously from Bamberg to Forchheim. Further VHF frequencies followed, most recently the two filling frequencies 98.8 MHz for Ebermannstadt and 92.1 MHz ( Franconian Switzerland with Heiligenstadt , Aufseß , Hollfeld to Gößweinstein ).

Frequency splitting

Fun boy radio

Fun Boy Radio with its youth program and chart-oriented music was particularly popular with the Americans stationed in Bamberg and culminated with broadcasts in American on Sunday evening. At the beginning of the broadcast every day at 1:20 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. there was the so-called “power play”: a full-length piece of music that changes every week and is selected from the latest publications. In the weekly show extra - the show with the extra sound from 1:20 p.m. to 3 p.m., there were competitions such as three times a day at the beginning, later twice a week “noise quotes” with large beverage manufacturers as sponsors (including Coca-Cola ). For some time they saved the otherwise meager advertising income of the "youth radio", which, unlike Radio Regnitzwelle, did not have large company holdings. The Frankenspiegel program followed every week from 3pm to 6pm with the claim “The magazine with information from the city, the region and the world”. a. moderated by the later managing director Heinrich Ellner. Once a week there were programs like Audimax - by students for students , a separate chart show , desired hits on Tuesdays between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., the program party time on Saturdays from 8 p.m. and Club II Express , Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. .

Radio Regnitzwelle

Radio Regnitzwelle dedicated itself to hits, oldies and the rather quieter pop and rock songs. I.a. The station produced 753 episodes of bedtime stories by Bamberger Kasperle together with the Herrnleben puppet stage , which were broadcast until the beginning of the 1990s. On Sunday morning, a format called “Immer wieder Sundays” with music from the 1950s and 1960s and hosted by Hannes Wiesnet ran.

Broadcast studios

Both broadcasters originally had their studios in the city center, Radio Regnitzwelle on Grünen Markt 14, Fun Boy Radio on Vorderen Graben 2 with a glass studio. Today's studios are located at Gutenbergstrasse 5 in the south of Bamberg.

fusion

Since the two stations were not profitable on their own, the owners of Fun Boy Radio decided to merge on July 1, 1991 after long hesitation and implemented a few days later. Fun Boy Radio's last broadcast day was July 14, 1991. The studios on Vorderen Graben (Fun Boy Radio) were closed.

Radio antenna Franconia

Both stations appeared on July 15, 1991 under the name Radio Antenne Franken - based on the then very successful Antenne Bayern . The oldie and hit format that was now broadcast, some of which were only broadcast eight hours a day (6 to 9, 12 to 14 and 16 to 18, later 7 p.m.) from Bamberg, was intended to open up new target groups. For the rest of the time, the BLR program, which was common for many local broadcasters in Bavaria from 1991, was taken over by satellite. The important jingles, identifying features of every radio station, were also adopted and so the station was not much independent at first. One of the slogans was "The station with a lot more melody". Later (local) slogans such as “Fresh, cheeky and Franconian, the good mood is always there - Radio Antenne Franken” was added. Well-known formats here were - as was previously the case with Radio Regnitzwelle - the morning program Frankenweggla or series such as “Grantlhuber”, in which districts or surrounding communities were illuminated and the grievances were uncovered. This brought closer citizenship. But even this station in the audio design known today as Arabella format and the main target group of 39-year-olds and over could not generate enough advertising revenue and therefore it was decided to rename the station on October 10, 1996 for the nine-year radio anniversary in the cathedral city to Radio Bamberg and with change the format right away.

Radio Bamberg

The slogan from October 1996 onwards was “Radio Bamberg ... goes deep into the ears”. There was a youth program called Club 15 from 3 p.m. (moderator, inter alia, Jörg Wagner), in which an attempt was made to respond to the students. Since then, the BLR's main program has mostly only been adopted in the evening and night hours and replaced by automated transmission lines in August 2017. Over the years, the station grew to become a fixture with market shares of around 10 to 25 percent later. Today the station is u. a. Known for its detailed reports in the field of basketball (through the local Bundesliga club) and events such as cinema summer, duck races, village tours and concert series such as those at Eyrichshof Castle near Ebern .

Moderators

For years, the morning presenter Helmut Pötzinger, who woke up the region almost every day of the week on Radio Regnitzwelle, Radio Antenne Franken and Radio Bamberg, was considered a veteran of Bamberg's local radio. In 2006 he left the station due to a professional reorientation. Jörg Wagner, who still moderates for Radio Bamberg today, became the new morning presenter, followed by Matthias Steger and Fabian Hollet.

Well-known moderators include a. Achim Kasch (now program director afk max Nuremberg), Thomas Hagenauer (now managing director of Radio Charivari 95.5 Munich ), Stefan Wolter (now including Alstervergnügen Hamburg), Bernd Stölting ( Wacken Open Air ) and Matthias Zeck (until March 4, 2016 Chairman of the FC Eintracht Bamberg board , previously supervisory board member 1. FC Nürnberg and freelancer at Sport1 and Sky ), Heidi Schütz (now singer of the band Fernando Express ), Linda Borrmann and Dominic Gebauer (both now Radio 7 ), Richard Krill (now BR ) as well as Laura Tendel and Kai -Uwe Digel (both now BLR ).

Holdings

Since September 11, 2001, a youth radio has been on air again under the name Radio Galaxy . It is operated by the same shareholders as Radio Bamberg and broadcasts in Bamberg and the surrounding area on its own frequency (104.7 MHz). The main program of the new station, which broadcasts around five hours a day from Bamberg, comes from the Regensburg radio station.

The Fun Boy Rundfunkprogramm GmbH was dissolved in the course of the election victory of the owner Andreas Starke as Lord Mayor of Bamberg in 2006; the shares were evenly distributed to the other shareholders of today's radio house in Gutenbergstrasse.

format

The program was initially concentrated on hits from the 1980s, the slogans of the station were "... goes ear deep!", "The greatest hits of all time" and "Most of the 80s and today's hits". Since August 2017, the station has been playing with the new slogan “My home. My Hits. ”And“ Most Hits, the Best Mix ”a wider selection of music.

In addition, the station offers world news every hour and half hour, regional news, traffic and speed camera reports, service and comedy.

Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings there are moderated and unmoderated courses by and with DJ Enrico Ostendorf.
