Waltalingen is a village in the political municipality of Stammheim in the canton of Zurich formed on January 1, 2019 . Until December 31, 2018, it formed an independent political municipality .
On September 24, 2017, the voters in Oberstammheim , Unterstammheim and Waltalingen decided to merge to form the political municipality of Stammheim at the beginning of 2019 .

geography
Waltalingen is located in the northeastern corner of the canton of Zurich in the Zurich wine country . The Stammertal , to which the village belongs, is a glacial landscape with a multitude of drumlins and other geomorphological manifestations. The former community also included the villages of Waltalingen and Guntalingen and the hamlet of Girsberg . 63% of the former municipality area is used for agriculture, 28% is covered with forest (as of 1996).

The SVP has 47.77%, the glp 10.49%, the SP 8.88%, the Greens 7.28%, BDP 7.12%, the FDP 6.41%, the EPP 3.56%, and the CVP 3.23% of the vote ( National Council election 2011 ).
The last mayor was Martin Zuber ( SVP ).
economy
Agriculture and viticulture are essential branches of business in Waltalingen, and local trade has also established itself.
Attractions
- Schwandegg Castle towers high above the village on a vineyard .
- In the church there are partly well-preserved frescoes from the Middle Ages.
- The village of Guntalingen has a well-preserved townscape with half-timbered houses , some of which date back to the 16th century.
- Girsberg Castle above the hamlet of Girsberg near Guntalingen .
