This reduced the municipality's land area by 4.6 hectares.

coat of arms

Blazon

A red beech tree in silver on a green ground

The coat of arms represents the copper beech documented since 1680 on the Stammberg, a small wooded elevation. It is said to be one of the oldest known copper beeches in Europe. In 2007 it was badly damaged by a storm.

The legend goes around, according to which the blood that has flowed in a fratricide is supposed to color the leaves of the tree red from the day of the driveway .

The name Buch am Irchel is most likely due to the considerable stocks of common beech trees that existed in this area.

history

During construction work on the church, remains of the Roman wall came to light. In Zieglen more buildings are suspected of the same period, they have so far not been scientifically studied.

Buch am Irchel was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1089 . Count Kuno von Achalm - Wülflingen gave part of the village and the church to the Zwiefalten monastery in Württemberg. Buch came into Habsburg possession in the 13th century .

Zurich took over the rule in Buch am Irchel in 1761 and incorporated it into the Landvogtei Andelfingen .

In 1855, Buch became an independent political municipality.
