The first traces of settlement have been found near the church, they come from Roman times . In the Middle Ages there was a fortified structure on the Schlossbuck. From 1228, servants of the Counts of Kyburg are mentioned in a document in the defense tower on the church hill . In the course of the 14th century the rule passed to Habsburg-Laufenburg . The monasteries Rheinau , Kappel , Kreuzlingen , Töss and Allerheiligen owned large estates in Henggart. The court rights was between Andelfingen divided and Kyburg. After the decline of the Kyburger in 1452 the second part of the village came under the rule of the city of Zurich.

The church of Henggart was expanded in 1275, with the collature from 1474 in the diocese of Constance until it came to Zurich with the Reformation. In 1820, today's classical church was built on the same site.
