history
The first documented mention of the mountain as a mountain in 1243 is certain. In 1268 Ida von Teufen transferred jurisdiction over Berg to the Kappel monastery . According to the Memorabilia Tigurina, in the 14th century the Embrach chapter had the lower jurisdiction and the right to the basic tithe . These rights passed to Zurich after the Reformation . In the 17th century Berg became the seat of its own provincial court.
In 1938/40 the Ebersberg Fortress was built into the sandstone layer of the Ebersberg to prevent enemy troops from crossing the Rhine or to stop them for a certain period of time.
Birds of prey station Berg am Irchel
The Berg am Irchel bird of prey station was founded in 1956. A care station for birds of prey has been created in collaboration with the Zurich Animal Hospital and the Sempach ornithological station. The care station is located on the site of the former tithe house of the Rheinau monastery . In 2008 the station was integrated into the PanEco Foundation . Since it was founded, over 3,000 birds of prey have been cared for and their care has been documented (as of 2010). This means that the station has scientific material on the raptor population in the Zurich wine region . In addition to bird care, the bird of prey station operates species protection , especially of rare birds of prey, environmental education, guided tours, advice and damage prevention.
