Oberstammheim is a village in the political municipality of Stammheim in the canton of Zurich formed on January 1, 2019 . Until December 31, 2018, it formed an independent political municipality .
On September 24, 2017, the voters in Oberstammheim, Unterstammheim and Waltalingen decided to unite to form the political municipality of Stammheim at the beginning of 2019 .

The tree trunk with the stumps that was sawn off at the top and bottom has been attested since 1687. On April 9, 1932, the municipal council preferred the current version to the proposed oldest Obervogtei coat of arms.
geography

Oberstammheim is located south of the Stammerberg . The eastern municipal boundary also forms part of the canton border with the canton of Thurgau . 55.1% of the former municipality area is used for agriculture, 36.4% is covered with forest, 3.2% is traffic area and 5.0% is settlement area, 0.2% is water (as of 1996). The landscape of the Stammertal is strongly glacial.
economy
The main branches of the economy are agriculture and viticulture, some local industry has also settled. Besides Mund, Oberstammheim is the only place in Switzerland where the aromatic plant saffron is grown.
politics
The SVP has 37.73%, the FDP 19.14%, the SP 11.25%, the Greens 7.68%, the glp 7.33%, the BDP 6.87%, the EPP 2.79% and the CVP 1.41% of the vote ( National Council election 2011 ).
The last mayor was Martin Farner (FDP).
history
Stammheim is mentioned for the first time in a document from the year 761. The monastery of St. Gallen then received possessions of free Alemanni Isanhard as a donation.
Churches
There are three churches in Oberstammheim:
- The reformed Gallus Chapel dates from the Middle Ages and has frescoes from 1310.
- The Catholic Church of Our Lady dates from 1942.
- The Evangelical Free Church of Chrischona
