Humlikon (Swiss German [ ˈhʊəmlɪkχə ]) is a municipality in the district of Andelfingen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

The coat of arms comes from the family of the Barons von Humlikon. In the 19th century the heraldic symbols for agriculture (ploughshare) and viticulture (vine knife) were used in the municipal coat of arms. When it came to establishing an official coat of arms, the municipality was recommended to reintroduce the historic coat of arms of the von Humlikon family , which was approved by voters in 1930.

The municipality of Humlikon is located in the Zürcher Weinland between Schaffhausen and Winterthur . Of the municipal area, 63.5% is used for agriculture, 28.4% is covered with forest, 2.7% is traffic area and 5.4% is settlement area.

history

On July 12, 1228, the monk Konrad von Humlicon registered a sale, this is the first written mention of the community.

In 1872 the existing civil parish was elevated to the status of a political parish.

Dürrenäsch plane crash

When crash of an airplane type Caravelle of Swissair on 4 September 1963 in Dürrenäsch in Canton Aargau 74 passengers lost their lives; 43 people came from Humlikon, around a fifth of the population at the time. There were 19 married couples and 5 individuals, including all members of the parish council. They wanted to travel to Geneva with the Caravelle to find out about pest control. More than 40 children were orphaned. The management of the municipality was taken over provisionally by the canton.

The SVP has 48.39%, the FDP 15.95%, the glp 10.03%, the SP 6.61%, the Greens 4.65%, the CVP 4.26%, and the EPP 4.03% of the votes ( National Council election 2019 ).

The mayor of the municipality is Marcel Meisterhans (as of May 2020).
