Volken is a municipality in the Andelfingen district of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

coat of arms

Blazon

In red an overturned silver ploughshare, flanked by two turned silver vine knives with gold handles

In the 17th century the coat of arms showed a fir tree, two squirrels and two plowshares; around 1700 the coat of arms then showed a lily and two plowshares. Since the 18th century the pictures show a ploughshare and two pruning knives, whereby the colors change frequently - the motif represents agriculture and viticulture that were once important for the people. The motif, which was then partially changed, was adjusted to the status "ploughshare and two pruning knives" and introduced in early 1935 by the Volken municipal council as the municipality's official coat of arms.
