The Berg am Irchel bird of prey station, founded in 1956, is a Swiss institution committed to the well-being and continued existence of domestic birds of prey and owls . The bird of prey station is part of the donation-financed PanEco foundation , which is committed to nature conservation and environmental education and has been awarded the ZEWO seal of approval .

Veronika von Stockar has been running a private care station for birds of prey since the 1960s . Veronika von Stockar was the eldest daughter of Hans Bühler and Marguerite, née Volkart (1897–1987). Stockar's mother Marguerite Bühler (1897–1987) was the youngest daughter of Georg Gottfried Volkart -Ammann (1850–1928). She lived with her siblings in the Schloss am Irchel since she was a child.

The Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich and the University of Bern awarded her honorary doctorates in 20007 for her good handling of wild animals and the data material carefully collected over the years . From 1957 until the PanEco Foundation took over the station, 3,000 birds were looked after.

background

The birds of prey need help and a place where they can be professionally cared for if necessary and released back into the wild as quickly as possible.

Areas of activity

maintenance

80% of all admitted patients can be released again - this is a very high value in an international comparison, where the average is 50%. Patients are kestrels , peregrine falcons , red kites , buzzards , sparrowhawks , tawny owls , barn owls and many other species. Usually they are weakened by hunger or injured due to an accident. Chicks that have fallen from the nest can safely grow up in the station.
