Gerald Thomas

Gerald Thomas (born December 10, 1920 in Kingston upon Hull , Yorkshire , † November 9, 1993 in Beaconsfield , Buckinghamshire ) was a British film director , film editor and producer , best known for the comedies of the Carry-on… film series .

Life

Thomas began his career in the Editor , where he, among others, his brother, the director Ralph Thomas , in whose film But, doctor ... support.

In the mid-1950s he also began working as a director and initially made crime films. From 1958 he found his successful niche with Carry On Sergeant in the 30 "low budget" comedies of the Carry-on ... film series , some of which he produced together with his friend Peter Rogers , and which were shot in the Pinewood Studios. The series ebbed in the late 1970s (with a straggler in 1992, Carry on Columbus ). He also shot crime novels such as Interpol calls Berlin (1957) or The Second Victory (1986), about a murder in occupied Austria shortly after the Second World War.

His brother Ralph Thomas has directed various "Carry On" films but was not mentioned in the credits . Gerald Thomas is also the uncle of producer Jeremy Thomas .
