Hans Georg Pfannmüller (born March 31, 1916 in Darmstadt ; † February 24, 1989 in Weil am Rhein ) was a German cartoonist .

Live and work

After attending the Humboldt-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf he studied painting, graphics, art history and dramaturgy at the art academies in Düsseldorf and Munich . a. with Olaf Gulbransson and Franz Kiederich . In the post-war period he was a lecturer in figurative drawing at the Grand Ducal Saxon Art School in Weimar , specialist teacher at the Thuringian master school and employee at the Weimar National Theater .

As an artist he found himself unable to follow the political and cultural constraints of the GDR, he fled to Düsseldorf in 1950. He lived there as a freelance artist until 1974, then from 1975 to 1981 in Bruchsal, where he published a caricature every week in the Badische Neuesten Nachrichten .

After the death of his first wife Maria, he moved to Ötlingen in 1982 . Here he worked as a freelance artist for publishers and as a lecturer at the Lörrach Adult Education Center and the Kaltenbach Foundation . In addition to his work in the fields of caricature , portraits, illustrations and graphics, he worked as a freelancer for book, magazine and newspaper publishers as well as on his own as an author. Exhibitions, lectures at home and abroad and various teaching assignments rounded off his field of activity.

His motto “Only those who can be fair are allowed to caricature” emerged from his studies with his teacher Olaf Gulbransson, and so he tried to do justice to the uniqueness of the portrayed person. He caricatured artists and politicians such as Gert Fröbe , Klaus Kinski , Heinz Rühmann , Theo Lingen , Konrad Adenauer and Marlene Dietrich . Among his friends were u. a. Wolfgang Reichmann and Jürgen von Manger (alias Adolf Tegtmeier ).

His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions, such as in Weimar, Düsseldorf, Speyer, Schramberg, Göttingen, Basel, Karlsruhe, Bonn, Lörrach, Bruchsal, Radolfzell and also in the hamlet of Stapflehus. Works by Pfannmüller are in European and overseas private and museum ownership ( Cartoonmuseum Basel ).

Until his death on April 24, 1989 Pfannmüller lived with his partner Friedel van Bebber in Ötlingen in the Markgräflerland . He was buried in the Ötlinger Friedhof.
