The television film Black Friday is a German documentary game from 1966 with Curd Jürgens in the leading role.

action

In 1929, the so-called " Black Friday " began the world economic crisis . The share prices on the stock exchanges plummeted. And at first it was the stockbrokers who lost their jobs. But soon afterwards, a wave of layoffs rolled through trading companies and factories around the world. The active workers and employees had to watch as their jobs were lost. In Germany in particular, many people felt abandoned by the state and began to be enthusiastic about politically radical ideas.

How could this fall in share prices and thus also in society? This is the question this film aims to answer.

The focus of the film is Richard Whitney , the stockbroker and President of the New York Stock Exchange , embodied by Curd Jürgens . While he appears at the beginning of the film as a radiant hero who tries to stop the collapse by buying support the day before the stock market crash , he is exposed as a daring speculator and criminal in the end .
