Alexander Rieckhoff (* 1969 in Villingen ) is a German crime novel writer and journalist.

Life

After completing his Abitur and military service, Rieckhoff did an apprenticeship as a banker and then turned to journalism. He was a volunteer and editor at the Schwarzwälder Bote and studied political science and history in Konstanz and Rome. In Rome he worked for ZDF and received a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . He stayed with the Second German Television even after graduation. He has been working as an editor in Mainz since 2002.

Rieckhoff became known as an author through the Black Forest thrillers written together with Stefan Ummenhofer with the unorthodox teacher Hubertus Hummel in the lead role. The thrillers have a lot of local color and, like " Der Bulle von Tölz " or the Allgäu thrillers by Michael Kobr and Volker Klüpfel, rely on a mixture of suspense and slapstick . Rieckhoff himself sees one reason for the success of the crime thrillers in the fact that in times of globalization people are thinking again about what is happening on their doorstep and away from the big cities.

The authors emphasize that a good regional crime thriller cannot take place anywhere, but with the specific topic only or primarily in the respective region.

For example, the themes of the Black Forest crime novels deal with a murder in the famous “ Black Forest Railway ” (in: Silent Night) or within a sect residing in the Black Forest that is reminiscent of the “ Fiat Lux ” community and its mouthpiece “ Uriella ” (in: Honigsüßer Death). "Honigsüßer Tod" was published in October 2009 by Piper Verlag . After the duo had successfully published several Hummel cases at Romäus Verlag, Piper secured the services of the authors.
