Quartet Bestial is a French drama from 1975 in which Michel Piccoli plays the leading role. The work of director Jacques Rouffio and screenwriter Georges Conchon is based on a true story that happened in Reims .
action
The heart surgeon Pierre Losseray leads a carefree, contemplative life with his wife in a small French town. When one of his patients does not survive the anesthesia , his honor is at stake. The local representative of the Brézé Medical Association urges Pierre to have his health checked - after all, Pierre had a heart attack not long ago . The resulting ECG shows slight abnormalities that already pose a safety risk for Pierre's operating room patients.
At a dinner with fellow doctors, Pierre learns of the tragic death of his professional colleague Dr. Mountain. The eccentric but thoroughly successful surgeon killed his family and then himself after being publicly exposed. The faded-in retrospectives show that the Brézé family, the majority of whom are surgeons in town, had brought about the disclosure of the scandal - Berg allegedly cheated while playing cards. It can therefore be assumed that the Brézé clan worked in a very similar way, i. H. with a strategic approach, also wants to eliminate Pierre as a competing surgeon. In the end, Pierre actually shoots his wife and himself, just like Dr. Mountain. Pierre would not have endured a demotion to general practitioner.

The film was shot in Madrid and in the small French town of Clermont-Ferrand . For the exterior view of the clinic, the “Polyclinique Philippe Marcombes” in Art Deco style, a now disused building on the city's clinic premises, was chosen . Many other listed sights adorn the scenes of the action.
criticism
The film service describes the doctor's film as a “ complex psychodrama ” and criticizes the Bestial Quartet “ too interested in shock effects ”.
