Andrew George McCabe (born March 18, 1968 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American lawyer . He was the FBI's Assistant Director from February 1, 2016 to January 29, 2018 .

Career

McCabe began his intelligence work in an FBI field office on a SWAT team. In 2003 he worked in the supervision of a Eurasian task force and later held management positions in the FBI Counterterrorism Division , the FBI National Security Branch and the FBI's Washington Field Office .

On February 1, 2016, just over a year before the end of the Obama administration , McCabe became FBI deputy director. To this end he was appointed by James B. Comey . After Comey's dismissal, McCabe became ex officio acting director on May 9, 2017 until Trump transferred the management of the FBI to Christopher Wray on August 2, 2017 .

On January 29, 2018, Andrew McCabe resigned from the post of assistant director and was given leave of absence. McCabe would have reached his pension entitlement by the age of 50 on March 18. Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe two days before his retirement, late in the evening on March 16. Previously, he had already been demoted to a simple agent “for passing on internal information”. McCabe was also accused of having denied the disclosure of confidential information during interviews, including under oath.

After the termination

US President Trump tweeted that the resignation was "great day for democracy", "a great day for democracy". Former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director and well-known Trump critic John O. Brennan replied on Twitter:

"When the full extent of your venality, moral turpitude, and political corruption becomes known, you will take your rightful place as a disgraced demagogue in the dustbin of history. You may scapegoat Andy McCabe, but you will not destroy America ... America will triumph over you. "

The democratic deputies in the House of Representatives , Bill Pascrell , tweeted the following: "Every day They vandalize our democracy and harm our institutions, and @HouseGOP does nothing." ( "Every day they lay waste our democracy and damage our institutions and @HouseGOP [twitter -Address of the US Republicans in the United States House of Representatives] does nothing ”). McCabe made some statements.

It was based on an investigation report that accused McCabe of providing inaccurate information on four occasions.
