John E. Otto

John E. Otto (born December 18, 1938 in Saint Paul , Minnesota - † April 22, 2020 in Norman , Oklahoma ) was an American government official. On May 26, 1987, he was appointed director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He resigned his office a good five months later on November 2, 1987.

Otto studied at the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 . In 1964 Otto joined the FBI, where he was, among other things, Special Agent in Charge of Minnesota , before becoming director.
