The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is a United States government official and head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He is subordinate to the United States Attorney General (German Generalbundesanwalt), who also represents the office of Justice Minister in the US government . He also refunded in intelligence Lichen affairs and defense against terrorism after the 2004 Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act established director of national intelligence (DNI) report. He is appointed by the President and has to be approved by the Senate with a simple majority (" 50% + 1 ").

The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the associated subdivisions of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), the Counterterrorism Division (CTD), the FBI Police (FBIP) and the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) with the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) and the famous Hostage Rescue Team (HRT).

J. Edgar Hoover

J. Edgar Hoover was arguably the most famous director of the FBI. He headed the Federal Bureau of Investigation - until 1935 Bureau of Investigation (BOI) - for 48 years until his death on May 2, 1972. He has thus reached four times the tenure of the second longest serving director Robert Mueller.
