The Behavioral Analysis Unit ( BAU ) ( English for "behavior analysis unit ") is a division of the US FBI . She is part of the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC), a subdivision of the Critical Incident Response Group . The headquarters of BAU is located on the premises of Marine Corps Base Quantico in the US state of Virginia .

The analysis unit is intended to provide help in both investigative and operational aspects. In doing so, she draws on case experience, research and intensive training. Your cases usually come from the areas of crime against children or against adults. Your help is also requested in cases of corruption or bomb threats.

Behavioral analysis in the field of crime is above all a process in which the crime is viewed from a behavioral and investigative point of view. This includes re-checking the facts, interpreting the behavior and analyzing the relationship between perpetrator and victim during the crime. All of this flows into at least one of the following tasks: crime analysis, interrogation strategies, profiling of unknown perpetrators, investigative proposals, threat analysis, dealing with serious crimes, strategies for prosecution and criminal proceedings and expert opinions.
