Critical Incident Response Group
The Critical Incident Response Group ( CIRG ) is the central crisis intervention division of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) . It was in 1994 in response to the continuing public pressure due to the disastrous crisis handling of incidents in Ruby Ridge ( Idaho ) and Waco ( Texas ), under the direction of Robin Montgomery , one of the most experienced FBI veteran , furnished.
assignment
The task of the CIRG is the development of efficient crisis management strategies and adequate handling of hostage and siege situations . Basically, the human-possible protection of the hostages is in the foreground, as the then director of the FBI, Louis Freeh , affirmed during a Senate hearing in 1995 . All tactical and investigative resources of the individual police enforcement agencies are to be bundled under one control center in order to be able to react immediately nationwide to terrorist activities of all kinds, hostage-taking and other situations that endanger the internal security of the USA in the event of a crisis. The CIRG is also responsible for serious incidents such as prison revolts, bomb threats, dangerous situations in the transport sector (e.g. aircraft or train hijackings) and natural disasters .
organization
The CIRG consists of three subdivisions, which together support the individual FBI agents on site (the 56 FBI field offices ) as well as US states , or local and international police organs with their deployment and training opportunities as well as concentrated specialist knowledge.
