Obama cabinet
On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States . In November 2012, he was for a second term re-elected . It ended on January 20, 2017.
composition
The majority of the cabinet members were Democrats . Four original cabinet members were non-party: Timothy Geithner, Robert Gates, Steven Chu, and Eric Shinseki. Robert Gates, who resigned on July 1, 2011, was Secretary of Defense of George W. Bush since December 18, 2006.
Unlike in the previous office's cabinet, the UN ambassador, the chair of the Council of Economic Advisers and, from January 2012, the head of the Small Business Administration received cabinet rank. The director of the Federal Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) no longer received cabinet rank. Obama appointed Gil Kerlikowske .

The formation of Obama's cabinet took an extremely long time. The reason for this was u. a. Candidates who have already been nominated and who wanted or had to leave the nomination and election process for various reasons. The cabinet was initially very diverse. A relatively large number of office holders, some of whom were chosen by the previous president, were taken over.
