Peter Mikami "Pete" Rouse (* 15. April 1946 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and was from October 2010 to December 2010 White House Chief of Staff under the US President Barack Obama . Rouse studied at Colby College , the London School of Economics and the Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University .

Rouse, who is Japanese on his mother's side, was the strongest advocate for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention center in the Obama administration .

In October 2010, Rahm Emanuel resigned from the post of Chief of Staff of the White House , which is why Rouse temporarily took over this post. The next regular chief of staff was former US Secretary of Commerce William M. Daley .
