Kenneth M. Duberstein (born April 21, 1944 ) is an American political adviser ( Republican ) and former Chief of Staff of the White House .

Career

Kenneth M. Duberstein was White House Chief of Staff from 1988 to 1989 under United States President Ronald Reagan . He succeeded Howard Baker and was the first Jew to hold this position. Duberstein was previously Deputy Chief of Staff of the White House in 1987 . He was also Assistant and Deputy Assistant to the President for Parliamentary Affairs from 1981 to 1983. In 1989 he was honored with the Presidential Citizens Medal , the second highest civil honor in the USA.
