Tunes is a former Portuguese municipality in the Silves district with an area of ​​12.9 km² and 2560 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). The population density is 199 inhabitants per km².

Some historians believe that this place was originally inhabited by people from Tunis , Tunisia, and hence the name Tunes comes from.

Tunes train station

The place is mainly known for its train station. Here the Linha do Sul begins and meets the Linha do Algarve . The station is also a stop of the Alfa Pendular between Faro and Lisbon .
