Jack H. Watson Jr. (born October 24, 1938 in El Paso , Texas ) is an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Jack Watson is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville , Tennessee in 1960. After graduation, he entered the US Marine Corps , which he left as a captain . After military service, he graduated from Harvard Law School in 1966 with a law degree .

Political career

Watson's political involvement began in 1966 as a consultant for the city of Atlanta in the field of combating crime , as head of the Society for mental illnesses of Atlanta, as head of the advisory council against alcohol abuse of the state of Georgia and from 1972 to 1977 as Chief of Human Resources of Georgia. In 1976, Watson led the Carter - Mondale Political Planning Group and then became head of the transition team when Gerald Ford handed over the presidency to Jimmy Carter.

Under Carter he took on duties as adviser to the president in the field of intergovernmental relations, as cabinet secretary, and from 1980 to 1981 as chief of staff of the White House . The handover of the presidency from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan was also led by him. After his duties in the White House, Watson worked between 1986 and 2001 as an advisor to various governments and as a member of diplomatic delegations.

Career as a lawyer

Watson began his professional career in 1966 as a lawyer and partner (1972) with the law firm King & Spalding in Atlanta . From 1980 he was a senior partner at Long, Aldridge & Norman, also based in Atlanta. There he worked as a senior lawyer for Business Law , Managing Director of Litigation Department, and from 1993 as head of the office of the firm in to 1998, Washington, DC 1990 called Supreme Court of Georgia Watson as head of the Conciliation Commission, a post he held until 2000 . From June 1998 to January 2000, he worked as a legal strategist at Monsanto .
