Robert A. "Bob" McDonald (* 20th June 1953 in Gary , Indiana ) is an American managers and politicians , who in the period from July 30 2014 to January 20, 2017, the Office of the War Veterans Minister of the United States in cabinet of Barack Obama held.

Life

Robert McDonald graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1975 . He then served for five years, most recently as a captain, in the United States Army , mainly in the 82nd Airborne Division . In 1978 he earned an MBA from the University of Utah . In 1980 he got a job at Procter & Gamble . From 2009 to 2013, he succeeded Alan G. Lafley as Chairman , CEO and President of the company until Lafley took the position again in June 2013.

After the resignation of US Veterans Secretary Eric K. Shinseki , Robert McDonald was nominated by President Barack Obama as his successor on July 7, 2014 . The Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs upheld the appeal without a dissenting vote; on July 29, 2014, the entire Senate voted 97-0 for him, after which he was able to take office the next day.

McDonald is married and has two children.
