Carl Adolf Ferdinand Gerstenberg (born January 3, 1826 in Magdeburg , † January 22, 1896 in Berlin ) was a German architect .

Life

The son of a brick factory owner studied in 1847/1848 at the Berlin building academy with a final building manager examination. As early as 1847 he became a member of the architects' association , which he represented from 1848, together with Gustav Möller , in the preparatory committee for the development of Berlin building regulations. In 1851 he founded the Berlin professional fire brigade together with Ludwig Scabell and worked as a fire inspector until 1861. In 1853 he married the merchant's daughter Marie Lohde, with whom he had four children. The son Richard also became an architect and government builder. In 1858 Adolf Gerstenberg passed the master builder examination. From 1861 to 1871 he was city ​​planner in Berlin and in this position predecessor of Hermann Blankenstein . He then worked as a private architect and expert for fire damage and mortgage appraisals in Berlin and was director of the Prussian construction company founded in 1872.

Gerstenberg was a founding member of the Society for the History of Berlin in 1865 .
