history

Interior with altar

In 1867 the first service took place in the so-called forest church. This was a place in the forest, equipped with an altar made of earth and lawn benches in a semicircle around it.

In 1880, construction of the church began according to plans by Adolf Gerstenberg . The church was completed in 1883 and consecrated on July 24th of that year. It was consecrated to John the Baptist . In 1886 the church received two bells . In 1903 a cemetery was created. In the same year the Resurrection Chapel was built. During the First World War, the bells were melted down for war purposes; In 1924 the church received a new bell, and soon another one too.

After three years of restoration, the church was consecrated again on July 9, 1962. During this restoration, angels, candlesticks, pictures and wall decorations were removed in favor of a modern sobriety. In 1991 the church was completely renovated. The old candlesticks were also recreated, the pictures restored, the clock and bell motor repaired and a church heating system installed. In the Thorvaldsen workshop in Copenhagen , the angel, which was removed in the 1960s, was rebuilt and fixed in the church for the festival of St. John's in 2002 .
