Michael Froman

Michael B. Froman (born August 20, 1962 ) is a former Citibank Group banker and the US trade officer . He was previously Assistant to the President of the United States and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs, a position shared by the National Security Council and the National Economic Council . He served the United States as a Sherpa at the G7 , G8 and G20 economic summits .

Froman, who was Robert Rubin's chief of staff at the Treasury in the Bill Clinton administration before he followed his boss to Citigroup , is considered a close advisor to President Barack Obama . Both know each other from their time together at Harvard University. On May 2, 2013, President Obama nominated him to succeed Ron Kirk as US trade representative. He was confirmed in office on June 19, 2013.

From 2013 to 2017, Froman was the US negotiator in the preparation of the Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement TTIP.

He has been Vice Chairman of Mastercard since April 2018, and has also been a director for the Walt Disney Company since September 2018 .

Since 2019 he has been a member of the Transatlantic Task Force of the German Marshall Fund and the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation .

Private

Froman lives in New York City with his wife, Nancy Goodman . They have a son and a daughter. An older son died of rare brain cancer at the age of ten in 2009 .
