Puy-Saint-Gulmier is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Étienne-des-Champs in the north and west, Combrailles in the north and north-east, Saint-Hilaire-les-Monges in the east, Prondines in the south and south-east and Sauvagnat in the south and south-west.
