The Arrondissement Riom is an administrative district in the department of Puy-de-Dôme in the French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The main town ( sub-prefecture ) is Riom .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Puy-de-Dôme department, a District de Riom was also founded, although it was smaller than the current arrondissement. With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the district became the arrondissement Riom , supplemented by the District de Montaigut .
geography
The arrondissement borders in the north on the arrondissements Montluçon and Vichy in the department Allier , in the east on the arrondissement Thiers , in the south on the arrondissement Clermont-Ferrand and in the west on the arrondissement Aubusson in the department Creuse ( Limousin ).

Reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017
The reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017 resulted in the 17 municipalities of Bourg-Lastic , Briffons , Chanat-la-Mouteyre , Herment , Lastic , Lussat , Malintrat , Les Martres-d'Artière , Messeix , Prondines , Saint-Germain-près-Herment , Saint-Sulpice , Sauvagnat , Savennes , Sayat , Tortebesse and Verneugheol from the Arrondissement Clermont-Ferrand and the 3 municipalities Limons , Luzillat and Maringues from the Arrondissement Thiers are assigned to the Arrondissement Riom. The municipality of Châteaugay was assigned from the Arrondissement of Riom to the Arrondissement of Clermont-Ferrand .
