The Canton Montaigut was 2015 a French canton in the Arrondissement Riom in the Puy-de-Dôme and the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; its main town was Montaigut , and from 2004 to 2015 Pierrette Daffix-Ray (initially PS , now DVG ) was the representative in the General Council of the Département .

The canton was 176.20 km² and had (2006) 8,034 inhabitants, which corresponded to a population density of 46 inhabitants per km². It was on average at 546 meters above sea ​​level , between 390 m in Lapeyrouse and 743 m in Youx .

history

In 2015 the canton was dissolved and merged into the new canton of Saint-Éloy-les-Mines .
