The canton of Courpière was a French canton in the arrondissement Thiers in the department Puy-de-Dôme and in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes until 2015 ; his main town was Courpière , André Wils was the representative in the General Council of the Département from 1994 to 2015, last re-elected in 2008. The canton was 209.15 km² and had 8,223 inhabitants (1999), which corresponded to a population density of 39 inhabitants per km². It was on average at 576 meters above sea level , between 297 m in Courpière and 1,267 m in Vollore-Montagne .
