Vollore-Ville is a French commune in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in the Puy-de-Dôme in the Arrondissement Thiers in the canton of Les Monts du Livradois .
General
The community covers 30.41 square kilometers at 316 to 1062 m above sea level . It is on the D 7 and D 313A. It has 743 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
history
In Roman times the settlement was called "Lavolatrum". In the history of Auvergne, the place appears in the 6th century when Thierry, son of Clovis ( Clovis I ), besieged Vollore in 532. In the 12th century the local aristocrats built a fortress, of which the Romanesque keep still exists today. In the 17th century the castle got its present appearance. For two centuries it has been the residence of the descendants of General La Fayette who lived in the Auvergne .
